LightHouse Ensemble presents: "YELLOWMAN" stage reading
Dael Orlandersmith's 2002 Pulitzer Prize Finalist Yellowman tells the story of Alma & Eugene, who have known each other since they were young children. As their friendship blossoms into love, Alma (Toitasha Bristo~Momma's District & I Need a Little More Jesus) struggles to free herself from her mother's poverty & alcoholism, while Eugene (Oba Shango~Lysistrata & The Zulu Boyz) must contend with the legacy of being "yellow"/lighter-skinned than his brutal & unforgiving father.
Directed by Will James (Armed Forces Entertainment, LightHouse Ensemble, Lumpy Grits Artistry) this is a gripping, fearless, and thought-provoking performance that addresses the issues of colorism in modern-day society.
