Fat Tuesday in Shreve Town Walking Parade, sponsored by DDA
Come dressed for a wild and wacky time on Fat Tuesday, Feb 13th 2018. You ARE the parade! The free, half mile parade sponsored by SHREVEPORT DOWNTOWN DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY includes 6 interactive stops that you will be a part of.
We’ll meet at 6:30pm and dance our way into the Oakland Cemetery in the tradition of a New Orleans Jazz Funeral procession at 7pm. We’ll honor those that never had a funeral, those that died from the Yellow Fever epidemic. Enjoy a dramatic role-play and interpretive dance in the new gazebo, then onto the Yellow Fever Mound for a blessing of the mass grave.
Other interactive stops include the Ogilvie Wiener Mansion to hear its history and enjoy a recreation of a song from a famous personality that once played in its upscale Florentine Nightclub. Then cross the street to the Logan Mansion for a brief history and special Mardi Gras throws tossed from its historic, ghostly balcony. The walking parade continues through the parking lot between Austen Place and the Municipal with a few more presentations along the way including a flash mob you won’t want to miss. The event winds up at Minicine Event Venue at 846 Texas Avenue to enjoy Karaoke, a little Gris Gris, photo ops with yellow edibles and beverages.
